The Sun Inn in Kirkby Lonsdale – which only last month was listed for the first time in the UK’s bestselling ‘The Good Food Guide’ – sits proudly among them.

The 17th century inn recently unveiled a newly-styled restaurant, Carter at the Sun Inn – named after head chef Sam Carter.

Sun recipes featured
in the guide include a
duck fritter starter, chicken main and carrot sponge dessert.

Other restaurants putting in an appearance include The Inn at Whitewell in the Forest of Bowland; Merewood Country House Hotel and the Miller Howe, both Windermere; Michael Caine’s restaurant at Abode, Manchester and Lunya at Liverpool One.

Each restaurant and chef has been hand-picked by the Relish team because they are highly acclaimed, Michelin-starred or have been recommended by other chefs in the area.

Paul Heathcote, whose own Heathcotes Brasserie in Preston’s Winckley Square has been a trailblazer for the region’s culinary
dining scene for nearly
two decades, champions
the region’s eating out venues.

Paul said: “When I returned to the North West in 1987, many described it as a culinary dessert but it has changed beyond recognition.

“We have eating establishments, pubs, restaurants and cafes that can stand up to the best in the world.
