Head to the theatre for clay sculptures

If you want to get ahead, get to The Dukes’ latest exhibition in Lancaster.

How To Get Ahead In The Theatre, which runs until June 8, features a range of curious porcelain carvings of heads by Lancaster sculptor, Alan Ward.

The heads, which are all shapes and sizes, were fired to 1000 degrees centigrade and once the clay hardened, Alan slowly carved the features out using a variety of fine dental tools.

“They are purely the product of my imagination and any resemblance to any person living or dead is entirely coincidental!” said Alan.

During his long artistic career, Alan has worked locally, nationally and abroad. Most recently, he has been working on stone carvings at the Lune Aqueduct in Lancaster. Last month, Alan was elected as an Associate Member of the Royal Society of British Sculptors.
