This well-loved story was written in 1906 and many people remember the 1970 film adaptation starring Jenny Agutter and Bernard Cribbins.

Director Carol Williamson hopes that this production, with a script written by Dave Simpson, will charm its audience as much as the big screen version.

“We have a cast of 30, many of whom are young people who have been in rehearsals since March,” she said.

“The story tells of three children and their mother who have to move from London to the country where they find friends and adventure around the local railway station.”

The company last presented this play at The Grand Theatre in 2000 when it was directed by Eric Smith who will be a VIP member of the audience on the opening night. Just as in that previous production, a locomotive will appear on stage and Footlights’ technical team is working hard to provide an unforgettable experience for theatre goers.

The production takes place Saturday, July 4, Sunday, July 5 and Saturday, July 11 at 2.30pm and on Thursday, July 9 and Friday, July 10 at 7.30pm.

Tickets are available from The Grand Theatre box office, open daily from 10am to 3pm (tel: 01524 64695) or online at www.lancastergrand.co.uk
