Here’s all you need to know about shopping hours and priority slots at supermarkets in Lancaster district

Most supermarket chains opening hours include an hour for the elderly and half an hour or an hour for NHS workers to do their shopping.

Social distancing measures have been introduced including markings on the floor when queueing to ensure people keep two metres apart, arrows on store floors to ensure shoppers follow a distinct route, and screens up at the tills to protect cashiers when people are paying.

Asda stores

Asda Lancaster opening hours:

Monday-Saturday 8am-10pm

Sunday 10am-4pm.

In Asda’s larger stores, priority access will be allotted to NHS workers every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8am to 9am.

Tesco stores

Tesco has dedicated an hour to NHS workers every Tuesday and Thursday from 9am to 10am, in all stores except Express stores.

NHS staff can also do their shopping for an hour ahead of usual opening hours on Sundays upon displaying their NHS employee card.

This is only available at Tesco’s larger stores and not their Express stores.

Between 8am and 9am on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, Sainsbury’s will be dedicated to serving elderly and disabled customers.

Between 7.30am and 8am Monday - Saturday, the store will be open to NHS and Social Care workers with a relevant pass or ID.

Morrisons have introduced an NHS hour from 6am-7am Monday-Saturday.

All colleagues with an NHS badge will be able to get into the store to stock up on the products they need.

On Sundays, the majority of Morrisons stores will open at 9am for NHS workers to shop.

Stores will open at 9.30am for all other customers to shop normally.

Therefore, during the period of the Covid-19 outbreak, the Sunday browsing hour is suspended, as you can shop normally from 9.30am each Sunday.

For any other stores that open later than 9.30am, they will open one hour earlier for NHS staff.
