A mini festival of the arts held on the first Friday of the month returns on December 5 with a festive theme.

Lancaster Arts City’s First Friday covers comedy, festive songs, visual arts, dance and poetry across several venues.

The events are:

Noon-4pm - If Trees Could Talk

Meet at the Storey Institute - Free

A free community tree dressing event led by environmental artist Sue Flowers from Green Close Studios.

2.30pm-6.30pm - ‘Songs for Christmas’ workshop

Trinity URC Hall, Middle Street - Free

7pm-8pm - ‘Songs for Christmas’ gig

Friends Meeting House - £5/£3

Local musicians perform versions of ‘Songs for Christmas’ by cult singer-songwriter Sufjan Stevens. Open to all-comers, contact Ben McCabe on 07796798986 or email ben.mccabe@moremusic.org.uk to sign up.

6pm-7pm Pass on a Poem

Lancaster Library - Free

A national campaign to entertain and to create enthusiasm for poetry by bringing people together to read poems out loud that have a special personal significance and to explain, briefly, why. Email producer@litfest.org to take part.

8pm-late - Drunken Nights III

Wagon and Horses, St George’s Quay

A series of live acts inspired by the traditions of the Great British pub; from standup comedy and karaoke to pub quizzes, live music and dance floor shenanigans.
