After seeing the idea on social media, Moorlands Community Group and the White Cross pub in Lancaster asked the people of Moorlands to get creative and help conjure up a Moorlands Spooky Trail.

As trick or treating won't be going ahead as usual this year, the residents' group asked as many houses as possible to commit to creating a Halloween-themed display in their windows leading up to the haunting holiday.

And so far more than 30 houses have joined in the spooky fun.

Local children (and adults) will be able to enjoy the displays on a safe Halloween walk with a downloadable spooky treasure hunt and an opportunity for children to vote for their top two favourite displays.

The group - which was set up in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic - is also encouraging households to dress up and enjoy the displays while not mixing with other households and following all Covid-19 guidelines.

Moorlands Community Group member Sharon Phillips said: "As a group we really wanted to give the local kids something exciting to look forward to and get involved in.

"We've planned a safe community event that gives us all the chance to get creative – I can't wait to see the displays go up and I hope people will post their Halloween costume pictures to our Facebook group."

The winner of the children's vote will get a free meal for their household at the White Cross Pub.
