Zadok the Priest opens this weekend’s concert by Lancaster and District Choral Society.

The well-known first movement of 4 Coronation Anthems by Handel was composed for the coronation of King George II and Queen Caroline in 1727. Another Baroque favourite on the programme is Haydn’s The Heavens are Telling.

In contrast, the choir will sing Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms and a song medley from West Side Story. John Perrin conducts. Accompanist on piano is Dr. Richard MacGregor and on the organ, Ian Pattinson. Harpist is Anna Kate Pearson and Dianne Bird plays percussion.

Phillip Alton, 12, from Ripley St Thomas Academy and StOswald’s Warton choirs, is the treble soloist. The concert is on Saturday, April 25 at Lancaster Priory at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £10 (£11 on night) and £6 for students. Accompanied schoolchildren go free. Buy them from Lancaster or Morecambe Visitor Information Centres (01524 582394/01524 582808 respectively).
