‘Winter’s Sun’, a small exhibition of big paintings by artist Hilli McManus can be seen at the

Whale Tail Café until January

Hilli is exhibiting three large scale paintings at the vegetarian cafe on Penny Street inspired by photographs taken by the artist at Williamson Park in the Baltic cold of Winter 2012.

“For three days, the skies were leaden with the threat of snow and the park was hung with a freezing mist,” said Hilli.

“I could barely stand to take my gloves off to hit the shutter to capture the light and its effects on the land. The hazy cold light that filters through in Winter is what I tried to capture here.

“This is not a painted reality, rather the ‘essence’ of how that light touches us.”

The Whale Tail opening hours are 9am-5pm Monday to Saturday and 10am-3pm on Sundays.
