Organisers of the popular event A-Wing, who are known for turning Lancaster Castle’s former prison cells into a rave floor, will bring Haçienda Classical to Williamson Park using the Ashton Memorial as their backdrop.

Iconic DJs Mike Pickering and Graeme Park will perform in a live fusion with Manchester Camerata, one of Europe’s best chamber orchestras, on Sunday May 8 2016.

The A Wing team decided to go ahead with the new project after the response from events at the castle and a successful relationship with the Duchy of Lancaster.

After visiting the Ashton Memorial site for the first time 18 months ago and falling in love with it, the team have been working closely with local authorities to make Haçienda Classical happen.

The one-off performance introduces dance music culture with a full live experimental orchestra; FAC 51 The Haçienda and Manchester Camerata collaborating with the DJs who shaped the club’s sound.

The two DJs who are bringing the project to life are seen as essential figures in the evolution of dance music, from acid house through to the current club and festival scene.

Mike Pickering said: “I’m thrilled to be involved in such an exciting project. Having Manchester Camerata playing Haçienda hits is a mouth-watering prospect. A classical rave indeed!”

The renowned DJs will select and perform a continuous set of signature Haçienda tracks alongside the 40 strong orchestra which will see the Ashton Memorial transformed for the night.

DJ Graeme Park said: “I’m extremely excited to be working alongside FAC51 The Haçienda, Mike Pickering and Manchester Camerata.

“The passion, romance and energy of the original house masters has stood the test of time and I think we’re going to blow some minds and take the euphoria of nude nights at The Haçienda to a whole new mind blowing level. I really can’t wait.”
