Dozens of schoolchildren armed with spades battled through the rain to plant 700 trees in a day. Youngsters from Garstang County Primary, Garstang St Thomas, St Mary and St Michael schools gathered at the flood basin, along with older children from Garstang High School, to plant the trees with a little hep from the British Trust for Conservation volunteers

Those with old cycles, none-too-keen on the wheels of change, are invited to the inaugural meeting of the Lancashire section of the Southern Veteran Cycle Club.
