Piano students play online for Lancaster hospice

Students of a local piano teacher have recorded themselves playing their favourite tune to raise funds and entertain the patients and staff at St John’s Hospice.

One of the parents, recognising that charities are facing difficult times, suggested the student’s music pieces could be uploaded to social media so people could enjoy the music at home whilst raising funds for the hospice.

Piano teacher Yvette Price agreed and has encouraged her students to play the pieces they most enjoy or pieces they have been practicing for exams for this fundraiser. Nearly twenty students are taking part or signing up to take part and send their music and messages of support to St John’s.

Yvette said: “So many students are practising piano for their hobby, with many getting ready for exams, which have now been cancelled.

"Rather than waste this talent and preparation we decided that uploading music was the perfect way to share the love of music.

"We’ve had to be creative – especially when it comes to duets and social distancing! The whole project has been done with so much love and support for everyone involved in St John’s because it plays such an important part in this community.”

The recordings are being uploaded to Facebook with more to follow, and £657 has already been raised to support patient care in the hospice and in people’s homes!

Yvette added: “Together with students I support St John’s every year with Christmas concerts and I know this local charity well. I also know St John’s needs the money with so many of their events cancelled. In my heart of hearts it would be great if we could raise £1000 through sharing our music and love for St John’s!”
