One further coronavirus death announced within Morecambe Bay hospitals trust

One further death from coronavirus was announced today at the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust.

The way deaths are announced nationally has now changed, and as a result only trust-wide figures are being released by NHS England.

The trust includes the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Westmorland General Hospital and Furness General Hospital.

The latest announcement brings the total in its facilities to 76.

As of last Friday - the most recent date that individual hospital data was available - 18 people were known to have died at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary who have tested positive for Covid-19.

In the north west, latest figures show a total of 6,829 confirmed cases.

This is an increase of 559 cases since yesterday.

That includes 1,026 cases in the region controlled by Lancashire County Council - the highest number for any area across the north west.

The latest figures from Public Health England show ​a total of 60,733 confirmed cases in the UK.

It means another 5,491 people have tested positive in the last 24 hours, with a further 1,606 deaths recorded.

Since the outbreak began, a total of 7,097 deaths have been recorded nationwide.
