The lads will be eating a “basic bean-based diet”, predominantly baked beans, but also mixing it up with other tinned bean variants.

On their fundraising page, Ed wrote: "With Lancashire back in lockdown and a looming second peak the 'Scotforth Scallywags' (Ed, Chris, Mo and Dom), want to do something to support the local community.

"Even as students, we recognise the relatively comfortable position we live in (even with the absence of our mums' cooking). So, we thought we’d set ourselves a challenge: Eat beans for a week, and donate the difference between our weekly shop and the beans.

"The donation will be made to Morecambe foodbank, literally putting money where our mouth is."

Ed added that they wanted to ensure the foodbank didn't miss out on charitable donations.

He said: "By donating money directly, rather than food, they can buy exactly what they need. We’ve been inspired by Beau Miles, an Aussie that ate his body weight in beans."
