She is eternally grateful to the doctors and nurses who cared for her throughout diagnosis and treatment, and wanted to give something back.

Sandra, 76, also has several friends who have had breast cancer, including some who have sadly lost their lives.

“I wanted to do something as a thank you for the wonderful care I received and for other women who have or are suffering with breast cancer,” she said.

“So I decided to go a little wild and have my hair dyed lavender in colour to raise money for the breast screening unit.”

Sandra, who has two daughters, two grandsons, two granddaughters and three great grandsons, booked an appointment at her hairdressers, Rose & Co of Marine Road East, Morecambe, and they spent four hours making the colour change, which saw Sandra go from grey to blonde, and finally a lovely shade of lavender.

Rose & Co kindly waived their fee of £68 which Sandra is giving to the Morecambe Bay Hospitals Charity Breast Screening Fund, along with £100 she wanted to donate herself.
