A Lancaster cyclist who was hours from death after a serious collision with a truck on Heysham bypass two years ago has completed a walk for a charity close to his heart.

Mark Bryan was 57 when he was seriously injured after a collision on the Bay Gateway in December 2018.

He suffered a fractured skull along with other serious injuries and was given just hours to live.

But his long recovery has gone well, and at the weekend he undertook his biggest challenge since leaving hospital to raise money for charity.

Starting at Lancaster Millennium Bridge, both Mark and his wife Paula embarked on a seven-mile walk to Morecambe.

Mark took on the challenge in memory of his mum Margaret and father Raymond, and proceeds raised will go to Cancer Research UK.

Mark's son, former Morecambe town councillor Joshua Brandwood, said: "The evening prior, I reached out to the people of Lancaster and Morecambe on social media and they absolutely delivered.

"We as a family are so grateful for the love and support shown, it's truly humbling.

"With the help of the community, I am incredibly pleased to announce the event raised over £1,000 for Cancer Research UK."
