These are the coronavirus hotspots across Lancashire

According to a scientific study in the last week, the North West currently has the highest R-rate for Covid-19 in the whole of England, as well as one of the highest infection rates in the country.

Within the region, Lancashire continues to see more confirmed cases of coronavirus than any other part of the North West, as numbers continue to rise.

Monitoring the number of new infections plays an important part in measuring R, the reproduction rate of the virus.

The UK Government last month unveiled plans for “local lockdowns” in the next phase of the fight against the pandemic.

At a press briefing on Friday (June 5), health secretary Matt Hancock said measures had since been put in place to dampen localised outbreaks.

Below are the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in each area of Lancashire, from lowest to highest (based on the areas with the most new cases for the size of their population) in the two-week period from May 23 to June 6 2020 (Images of for illustration purposes only):
