The way deaths are announced nationally means that only trust-wide figures are being released by NHS England.

The trust includes the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Westmorland General Hospital in Kendal and Furness General Hospital in Barrow, although WGH is being kept as a non-Covid site.

One death was recorded today, Thursday May 6, bringing the total across the trust to 154.

There is a delay in reporting the figures which means that each death is not reported by the NHS on the following day.

The statistics include patients who died in hospital - but not other places, such as care homes.

Meanwhile, figures released by the Office for National Statistics on Tuesday show that 44 people in total have died from Covid-19 in the area covered by Lancaster City Council.

The figures run from the start of the outbreak until April 24 and include deaths outside of hospitals.

Of the 44 deaths, 37 were recorded at a hospital, four were at care homes, one at home and two in hospices.

As of Monday morning, 268 people had been discharged from hospital after recovering from Covid-19 within the trust.
