The figures run from the start of the outbreak until April 24 and include deaths outside of hospitals.

Of the 44 deaths, 37 were recorded at a hospital, four were at care homes, one at home and two in hospices.

The figures are based on the number of deaths registered up to May 2, where Covid-19 is mentioned on the death certificate.

Delays in registering deaths may mean the number of deaths on more recent days later increases.

As of today, Wednesday May 6, there have been 153 deaths recorded by NHS England within the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust.

The trust includes the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Westmorland General Hospital in Kendal and Furness General Hospital in Barrow, although WGH is being kept as a non-Covid site.
