Morecambe community rallies round to help stranded circus

Morecambe residents shoed their sense of community this week when they banded together to support members of the circus currently stranded in the town.

Big Kid Circus is currently stranded in Morecambe, having arrived last week for several shows but unable to open due to government restrictions - leaving them with no income.

But the community, including the foodbank and some local businesses, has rallied round to support the 26-strong group and this week handed over numerous boxes of food and provisions to help keep them going.

Lancaster City Council also intervened, helping out with emergency bins and a waste collection.

Big Kid Circus posted their thanks on social media, saying: "Thank you to the people of Morecambe for your very kind generosity. It came at just the right time and is much appreciated."

As The Visitor reported last week, the circus was due to operate from Thursday to Sunday, but was cancelled following the latest advice from the government as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.

Although not in operation, the circus will remain on site as it is a travelling circus and would normally move onto its next event after closing.
