Like most other schools, since the March lockdown Caton Primary School has been busy looking after key worker children and preparing for the wider reopening as soon as they are able

to.

As part of this, schools have been creating markers two metres apart, to encourage pupils to observe social distancing.

Caton head Gail Bowskill said: "We wanted to inject a bit of fun into social distancing to make it as pleasant an experience as possible for our children when they return to school, so we came up with the novel idea of painting flowers two metres apart."

Over half term, families were invited into the school playground in a designated time slot and each painted their own flowers so that once school reopens more widely, children will know

exactly where their parents will wait for them at the end of the school day.

Emma Parsons, a parent governor with two children in the school, said:"As a parent we all know that it’s going to be quite different for them when the children finally go back to school,

and painting the flowers on the yard is a fun way for them to engage, understand, and help in the school’s thorough plan for reopening safely.

"The flowers were a brilliant idea, and judging by the colours and creativity on view when entering the school yard, it was a very enjoyable experience for everyone involved. I know we loved it!”
