Queen Elizabeth School in Kirkby Lonsdale has had two separate positive cases in Key Stage 4.

As a result, parents were advised by letter that both pupils were now self-isolating with their families, and the school had also followed advice given by Government and Public Health England in contacting the parents and carers of other pupils who had been in close contact. They are now also self-isolating - including some whole classes.

Other children were advised to continue attending school as usual, unless they developed Covid-19 symptoms.

Head Alison Wilkinson said the two cases, which were dealt with on Sunday and Monday, are completely unrelated and as a result of transmission outside the school community.

She said: "Our pupils have been fantastically calm and lovely to work with and are coping well with the measures we’ve put in place to mitigate the risks.

"We can’t thank our teaching and support staff enough for going beyond the call of duty to teach in these difficult circumstances.

"We are grateful for the support of our parents who have been understanding throughout these months and continue to work in strong partnership with us.

"We know that schools up and down the country are dealing with this."

Lancaster Royal Grammar School and Dallas Road Primary School were both forced to keep certain classes off school last week as a precaution following positive Covid-19 tests, while Castle View Primary School partially closed on Monday after a case.
