Thousands of students across Lancashire are set to finally find out their GCSE results today (Thursday, August 22.)

Corpus Christi Catholic High School celebrates record results

For the third consecutive year at Corpus Christi, their pupils have achieved the best GCSE results on record.

The school added that the progress made from their starting points in Year 7 has been exceptional.

Deputy Head Boy, Krish Amaresan, achieved nine grade 9s and will go on to study A level further mathematics, chemistry and physics at Newman College.

Krish said: “I am extremely delighted with my results and I am grateful for all the support received from my teachers throughout my journey at Corpus Christi.”

Humaira Hussain achieved five grade 9s and will study mathematics, chemistry and biology at Newman College.

Humaira said: “All the hard work has been worth it. I would like to thank all of my teachers and I am looking forward to starting college!”

Headteacher, Mr Hankin, said: “Our pupils have achieved this as a result of their impeccable behaviour, strong attendance and excellent attitudes to learning. They have been supported exceptionally well throughout their time with us by both their highly skilled and committed staff, and their parents and carers.”

Corpus Christi adds that they are very proud of their achievements and wish them every success in the future.

Despite the challenges of the past few years, the students of Burscough Priory Academy have recorded more fantastic results, including:

  • Eva Styles: 4 Grade 9’s, 3 Grade 8’s, 2 Grade 7’s. Eva is Head Student at Burscough Priory Academy, studied Further Mathematics and visited Uganda with her local church during Year 11, having fundraised the trip.
  • Lewis Forshaw: 4 Grade 9’s, 1 Grade 8, 3 Grade 7’s, 1 Grade 6
  • Kathryn Dilworth: 1 Grade 9, 3 Grade 8’s, 4 Grade 7’s, 1 Grade 6, all while representing Great Britain as a paired sailor.
  • British superbike athlete Jacob Stephenson broke his collarbone the weekend before examinations began! Despite the setback, through determination and support from the school, Jacob was able to sit all his exams and passed every exam with the grades he needed.
  • Paige Davies: 3 Grade 9’s, 3 Grade 8’s and 2 Grade 7’s, with Grade 9 in English Language, Literature and History.

Ormskirk School celebrates students' achievements

Students and staff at Ormskirk School are celebrating a series of top GCSE grades. To support the Ormskirk students, staff went the extra mile by delivering extra lessons and maximising every minute of curriculum time.

All these efforts paid off, with students securing some brilliant results, including:

  • Benjamin Bearon: nine grade 9s
  • Lily Arbon Black: eight grade 9s and one grade 8.
  • Daniel Rowles: five grade 9s, three grade 8s and one grade 6.
  • Josh Beacock: six grade 9s, one grade 8, one grade 7 and one grade 6.
  • Ava Flanagan: three grade 9s, five grade 8s, and one grade 7

John Burnham, Headteacher at Ormskirk School, said: “Our students have worked so hard during such a challenging time and today they get to celebrate the end result of such commitment and dedication to their education.

Another superb year of GCSE results for Westholme

Westholme School is celebrating after producing another very strong year of GCSE results. 

The independent school in Blackburn has seen year-on-year improvements at every grade, including almost double the percentage of grade 9s from 2023.

One third of pupils achieved 5 or more results at 9-7 grades.

Principal Paul Taylor expressed his heartfelt congratulations to all Year 11 students, celebrating their outstanding achievements, dedication, and hard work. 

He said: “We are incredibly proud of our students. They coped admirably with the pressures of their first public examinations, and we are delighted with the results of their sheer hard work.” 

Student Rowan Orr gained an incredible nine 9s and one grade 8 in subjects including English Literature, Maths and Physics. 

Zain Sykes was one of many students delighted to achieve the highest grades achieving six 9s, three 8s and one 7. 

The grades achieved today are some of the best in the school's recent history, with almost a quarter of all entries graded 9-8 and an impressive 37 percent achieving 9-7.  

Mr Taylor also acknowledged the commitment of Westholme’s staff: “I would also like to pay testament to my colleagues who have taught and guided this cohort through their time in the Westholme family.

“The care that students receive from Primary Reception through to the Upper Sixth is exceptional.”

These Year 11 students will be progressing on to Westholme’s nationally recognised INSPIRED Sixth Form to continue their studies. 

Mr Taylor added: “The basic building blocks are now in place, and we expect our students to thrive in the academic side of life in the Westholme INSPIRED Sixth Form as well as continue to commit to their all-round development through our extensive co-curricular programme.

“I know that they will continue to ‘work hard’ and ‘be kind’, our core values here at Westholme.”

Nelson and Colne College Group GCSE results exceed national average

Nelson and Colne College Group (NCCG) is celebrating outstanding GCSE results for its students aged 16-18, which have significantly surpassed both regional and national averages in English and Maths.  In English, NCCG achieved a remarkable 43 percent pass rate, more than double the national average of 19.3 percent and well above the Lancashire average of 22.7 percent. Similarly, the Maths pass rate reached 33 percent, significantly outperforming the Lancashire average of 15 percent and the national average of 15 percent. 

These exceptional results demonstrate NCCG’s commitment to providing high-quality education and support to its students, enabling them to achieve their full potential.

Highfield Leadership Academy pupils prepare for promising futures after GCSE achievements

Xander Sieradzki – Highfield’s Deputy Head Boy ­– is one of many pupils who made outstanding progress at the school, developing his confidence and leadership skills to become a superb role model for others.

He was delighted to receive seven GCSE grade 9s, two grade 8s and one grade 7, along with a BTec Distinction*. 

Another of the school’s high achievers is Fatima Hashemi who was awarded one grade 9, seven grade 8s, one grade 6 and a BTec Merit.

She will join Blackpool Sixth Form in September to study Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Economics.

Joining Fatima at Blackpool Sixth Form is Malak Lasledj, who has overcome challenges during her education to achieve three grade 8s, four grade 7s, one grade 6 and a Level 2 BTec.  With a future career in Law in her sights, Katie Jones will go onto study A levels in Law, Modern History and English Literature at Blackpool Sixth Form after achieving fantastic results including one grade 8, three grade 7s and three grade  Pupil Bobby Burgoyne has been a committed member of the Combined Cadet Force at Highfield Leadership Academy, and was recently awarded the Tommy Trophy in recognition of his contributions to fundraising in the local community.

To add to this accolade, he was thrilled to receive his GCSEs which include one grade 9, one grade 8, three grade 7s, two grade 6s, two grade 5s and a BTec Merit.

Delighted after receiving a great set of results – including grade 8s in English Language and Art – Sarah Dodgson has secured a coveted fully-funded bursary at City of London Freemen’s School, a leading independent school in Surrey.

Another of the school’s shining stars is Noah Clement whose results include a grade 9 (the highest possible grade) in Mathematics and a grade 8 in Chemistry. S

Declan Alexander is rightfully celebrating his achievements, having defied all odds while battling a serious health issue.

Having secured six subjects at grade 5 and above, Declan said: “I strived through my struggles of having chronic fatigue syndrome and am grateful to Bay Leadership Academy for their help and support.

“The main challenge I had was becoming behind in my learning and I only achieved success because I had the support of my teachers who helped me excel and adapted the learning to support me in the exams.”

Hafiz Rayhan Desai, one of the school’s top performers, is on cloud nine after achieving seven grade 9s and three grade 8s.

Not only has Hafiz Rayhan exceeded expectations in his studies, he has done so while balancing his school work with volunteering work in the Preston community.

After completing his GCSEs, Hafiz Rayhan will continue his religious scholarship at a renowned Islamic Seminary.

Another of the school’s high achievers is Mohammed Bilaal whose hard work and dedication have seen him earn six grade 9s (the highest possible grade) in his GCSEs as well as four grade 8s to round off an incredible set of results.

Mohammed, who hopes to become a doctor, has secured a place at TB6 – the Sixth Form of fellow Star Academies school, Tauheedul Islam Boys’ High School – where he will study Biology, Chemistry and Maths.

Wali Muhammad is also celebrating a fantastic set of results after achieving six grade 9s and three grade 8s.

With aspirations to pursue a career in the medical field and give back to his community, Wali is planning to continue his studies at Lancaster Royal Grammar School. Nafisa Patel, Principal at Eden Boys’ School, Preston, said: "Our pupils have shown remarkable effort and determination to succeed and today's GCSE results are proof of their hard work.

“Each pupil should be very proud of what they have accomplished and we are excited to see what the future holds for them.

An Aspire Academy spokesperson said: “We are incredibly proud of the class of 2024. The results reflect the hard work and dedication of both the students and the staff.

“The students have attained a greater number of higher grades than previous cohorts setting them up perfectly for the next phase of their education.

“All of our students have confirmed pathways in either education or work based training for September and we look forward to celebrating their future successes.”

Penwortham Priory Academy is celebrating another successful results day.

Principal Matt Eastham said: “Results today are a celebration for all, with outcomes enabling our pupils to open doors to their future opportunities as they move on from Priory. The results of many individuals have shone, with their hard work and commitment rewarded with outstanding grades. The results clearly reflect the effort put in by all involved.”

Preston McMurray celebrated eight Grade 9s – a clean sweep – and will now go onto LUSOM (Lancaster University School of Maths).

Preston, who also got a Level 2 Distinction * in Engineering, said: “I am happy. I am delighted with my Maths results but I thought I would get an 8 in English Literature so was delighted with that.

“I want to do something with Maths in the future. Maths is fun and the Further Maths was an extra qualification. It gives me a head start with my A-Levels.”

Twin sister Lily exceed expectations, achieving nine GCSEs with five Grade 9s and all Grade 7 and above. 

Lily said: “I was shocked I got a Grade 9 in chemistry. I got a seven in my mock so I was pleased with that.

“I got a Grade 9 in Art which was amazing as I took it on my own, I had my own classroom and worked with Miss Smith.

“I want to go to Newman College and study Biology, Art, Maths and German. It will be weird being separated from Preston for the first time but the colleges are next door to each other!”

Sam Doherty got what he expected – 7 Grade 9s and one Grade 8 as well as a Level 2 Distinction * in Engineering.

He said: “I kind of expected what I got although I expected an 8 in English and I got a 9 so I was surprised at that.

“I want to go to Newman College and study Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry and Biology. I want to do something with medicine.”

Madison Pollock-Hall, who  got six GCSEs, Grades 8 and 7, and a Level 2 Distinction in Business and Enterprise and Digital Information Technology, said: “I aim to go to Newman College and study A-Levels in Business and Economics and a BTEC in Law.”

Emmie Parkinson, who achieved seven GCSEs – with four 9s and three 8s – as well as a Level 2 Distinction in Graphic Design, said: “I am going to go to Newman College to study Graphic Design, Sociology and French. I like Graphic Design and want a career in that but I am also good at French so we shall see.

“I am really proud.”

Issac Smith, who achieved seven GCSES - including a Grade 8 in Maths – and a Level 2 Distinction in Engineering, said: “I aim to do Maths, Further Maths, Economics and Physics either at LUSOM or Newman College.

“In the future, I want to do Maths or finance. I like maths as there is an answer – in English there are a number of interpretations! I like STEM.”

Alex Eland, who  celebrated nine GCSEs – with three Grade 9s and the rest 8s and 7s, said: “I want to go to Newman College and study Maths, Physics and PE. I like sport but have no idea what I want to do in the future.”

Lucas Riley, who  achieved two Grade 9s in Science and then five 8s among his results, which included a Level 2 Distinction in Digital Information Technology, said: “I want to go to Newman as well and do Graphic Design, French and Biology.”

Megan Hudson admitted she was amazed by her results after collecting four Grade 9s and one Grade 8, 7 and 6 as well and Level 2 Distinction * in Engineering and a Level 2 Distinction in Graphic Design.

She said: “I was so worried about my maths as I felt I had messed up the first paper so to get a 7 means it all came together!

“I want to go to Newman College to study Maths, Physics and Computer Science and perhaps go down the engineering route in the future.”

Lucy Bonney, who achieved a 9 in English Language as well as three 8s and two 7s, with a Level 2 Distinction in Graphic Design and a Level 2 Merit in Business and Enterprise, said: “I am happy with my English Literature, getting a Grade 7 as I thought I would only get a 5. I want to go to Newman and do Psychology, Modern History and English Language.”

Wellfield Academy celebrates students’ achievements

Students and staff at Wellfield Academy are celebrating a series of top GCSE grades and an improvement overall from 2023.

 The Class of 2024 now leave the Wellfield family prepared for the next steps in their education after all of their efforts paid off, with students securing some brilliant results, including:

  • Favour A: four grade 9s, three grade 8s, and two grade 7s. Favour will now move on to Runshaw to study A-Levels.
  • Jey L: one grade 9, four grade 7s, two 6s, and a grade 5
  • Wellfield’s Head Student, Callum P, who was recently offered a scholarship in Media at Preston College after meeting key criteria, also made excellent progress with a grade 8 in Art, along with a suite of 5s and 6s in his other subjects.

To support students, Wellfield Academy say their fantastic staff, who know students as individuals, maintained their personalised, caring and supportive approach, along with excellent teaching and learning, which have proven to be effective with this year’s cohort.

The relentless approach to ensuring that all students received the best they possibly could from their time at Wellfield included extra clinics, targeted intervention sessions and every student being allocated a staff mentor for the academic year, all of which have ultimately proven to be successful.

Furthermore, the school’s ‘progress strategy’ for the academic year included increased staff numbers in the pastoral team to support with anxiety and mental health concerns, increased work with parents and carers as well as enhanced collaboration with colleagues across Endeavour Learning Trust to ensure the highest quality curriculum and assessments were in place to meet the needs of the students.

Archbishop Temple celebrates outstanding GCSE results

Archbishop Temple Church of England High School in Preston says it is proud to announce another year of outstanding GCSE results, reflecting the dedication, resilience, and hard work of our students, staff, and the entire school community.

This year, 90% of students achieved a pass in English, 88% achieved a pass in Maths and a number of subjects achieved a 100% pass rate.

Carr Hill High School is delighted with its results

Carr Hill High School have said they are “so proud” of their Year 11 students who received their results today.

Students were invited to come into school to collect their results, speak to their teachers and celebrate with friends and parents, and they proved that hard work really does pay off, as many got higher than their predicted scores.

Headteacher Andrew Waller said: "All the staff at Carr Hill High School are very proud of the achievements of this Year 11. These students had a lot of disruption to contend with in Years 7 and 8 due to Covid but bounced back and it is fantastic to see so many of them do really well. As a school we congratulate them on their results. There are some fantastic individual performances – not just from students achieving the very top grades but by those who have overcome particularly difficult circumstances. We wish all our Year 11 students every success as they move on to their colleges or apprenticeships."

Family members celebrated and supported the students and many were bursting with pride at their achievements.

Students were talking to each other about their next steps, offering support and celebrating together, with many of them moving on to local colleges, Sixth Forms and Apprenticeships.

In a statement, Carr Hill said: “All of the students worked extremely hard and they deserve to celebrate what they have achieved.

“Sophie, our Senior Student (Head Girl) was proud of herself for achieving Grade 9s in some academic subjects, but also a Distinction * in BTEC Dance. However, her brother was pleased he still holds the highest number of Grade 9s in their household.

“The competitive nature of our students came out when comparing the individual grades for each of the subjects, all in good nature and showing great camaraderie.

“The teachers were beaming with pride when chatting to students about their achievements, celebrating with them and advising them on their next steps.

“We are all delighted with the outcome - this year group have been extremely special and they certainly deserved all of the excellent results they have received. 

“The Carr Hill community wishes all of our Year 11 students the very best for the future. Congratulations and well done for all the hard work you have put in. Keep in touch!

South Shore Academy issues statement regarding GCSE results.

Interim Head Neil Kay said: “We've had a great morning at South Shore Academy, celebrating with our Y11 pupils.  There have been some incredible successes with  pupils achieving 8 or more GCSEs all at grade 7 or higher and lots of pupils who now have the grades to be able to continue their educational journey.”
