Lancaster & Morecambe College is committed to supporting businesses to navigate the economic uncertainty brought about by the on-going pandemic and can help you recruit the right staff for your company.

Last year, the government announced a raft of incentives to help kick-start the economy and to support local businesses and these are still available for a limited time. Businesses who employ a new apprentice prior to 31st March 2021 are entitled to additional grant payments of up to £3,000 alongside the usual 95% apprenticeship funding.

Kelly Lightfoot, from LMC’s Employer Engagement Team, has seen an increase in interest from local employers who are keen to find out more about the benefits of recruiting an apprentice. “The incentives are definitely encouraging businesses to consider whether an apprentice is a viable option for them. It isn’t just about the increased funding available; apprentices bring new skills and opportunities into the workplace and we are seeing a growing number of adults choosing to retrain through the apprenticeship route. Our team are here to support and advice any business who wants to find out more about recruiting an apprentice or trainee.”

Bruno Buccelli, owner of Buccelli’s in Lancaster, would recommend employing an apprentice. “It’s a great scheme as it’s affordable for the owners and gives you the opportunity to develop the skills of your employee. It creates networking opportunities and it helps my business.”
