There are new faces behind the bar at The Palatine in Morecambe.

Richard and Marianne Verschoor have recently relocated from South Africa and have now taken on the town centre venue.

The couple are experienced food and drink specialists and will be operating the restaurant upstairs as well as the main bar on the ground floor.

The pub had a quiet ‘soft opening’ over the weekend and will start to open up the place fully over the next few days.

The Palatine is among several venues across the region to be operated by Lancaster Brewery Company, including The Sun in Lancaster.

We’ll be speaking to Richard and Marianne to find out more about their future plans for The Palatine once they have settled in.

Ben Vandenbrink was the first to open a restaurant above The Palatine, called 18 Degrees North, in May 2019.

Ben appeared on Masterchef: The Professionals in 2018.

The venue then became Secret Bistro, run by owner and head chef, the late Gavin Riley, before it became The Mad Hunter, run by Travis Dunlop.
