Beauty salons and freelancers from across the district are being invited to donate vouchers which will then be donated to NHS workers, giving them free treatments to be used once the crisis is over.

Anna Koscielska, who runs Beauty Secrets by Anna in Morecambe, came up with the idea after seeing similar initiatives start up in Poland.

"As a small beauty business owner in Morecambe after seeing Beauty for Heroes action take off really well in Europe, I decided I’d like to do the same in the local area and I convinced a friend of mine, make-up artist Magda from Garstang, to join me.

"The idea is simple - once this madness is over, when beauty salons, gyms and hairdressers will be able to work, the industry will repay health care workers - they will take care of them as they care for the sick today.

"The action originates in Poland and the main initiator is Monika Mroczka, who initiated the action in which France, Germany, Netherlands and other countries also joined.

"I couldn't not get involved, even though our industry is still standing. We want to express gratitude after all and after all give moments of relaxation to our heroes, heroines, for free, if possible to each of us.

"The beauty industry wants to thank the doctors for their fight for our health and life."

Anna is now looking for support from local beauty salons, as well as businesses from within sister industries such as dieticians, nutritionists, personal trainers and gyms.

Anyone can join the action directly by contacting Anna Koscielska, or through the Facebook group "Beauty For Heroes Morecambe Lancaster Garstang".

Anna added: "We accept vouchers for free services, we do not prefer discounts, we want to avoid getting extra money from our medics, it is a gift, an expression of gratitude.

"Let them know that in these difficult times we want to support them as much as we can."

Donations are being accepted until the end of April.
