Kirkby Lonsdale switched on its Christmas lights as the first week of late night shopping got under way.

Kirkby Lonsdale Community Interest Company (Kirkby Lonsdale CIC) organised the installation of the Christmas trees and put the colour of the lights to a public vote.

The town chose white Christmas lights this year so each shop has a Christmas tree on the wall above their window which twinkles softly in uniform with the others.

There were many people in the streets admiring the beautiful lights during late night shopping, especially the large Christmas tree in the square, which was donated by Underley Estate, while Lunesdale Home and Gardens supplied the mini Christmas trees around the town.

Though the Christmas lights this year are smaller than last year because of coronavirus difficulties, the town has come together to create a wonderful display, installed by local ground and property maintenance contractor Craig Bradshaw, which is more magical and romantic than ever before.

On top of that, Kirkby Lonsdale CIC is holding a Christmas Window Competition so each shop has a beautiful lit-up window to match their tree.

Local photographer Robin Rees said: "The Kirkby Lonsdale Christmas tree this year is stunning in its perfect setting and the beautiful lights make the shops and pubs so inviting.

"Kirkby Lonsdale really comes alive once the Christmas lights are up and especially during late night shopping on a Friday night.

"I love photographing the town during the festive season when everything is so magical and mystical."
