Electricity North West reassures customers in Lancaster and Morecambe about power supplies after local lockdowns were brought in

Electricity North West has moved quickly to reassure customers about power supplies as more areas across the region enter local lockdowns.

Stricter guidelines have now been implemented throughout the majority of the North West because of a rise in coronavirus cases.

Since the start of the pandemic, engineers at the power network operator have continued to work on the overhead powerlines and underground cables to keep the power flowing. Despite the new measures, Electricity North West will continue to provide its essential service by monitoring and responding to any issues round the clock to reduce any impact of power cuts as people continue to spend more time at home.

Steph Trubshaw, customer director at Electricity North West said: “It’s an extremely challenging time for everybody but we want our customers to know we are here for them.

“From the outset of the pandemic, our engineers were identified as key workers by the Government, and they’ll continue to work hard and help keep the power flowing 24/7, 365 days a year.”

Since the pandemic first started back in March, Electricity North West has proactively contacted more than 285,000 customers on its Priority Services Register and handled 145,512 customer calls.

More than £500,000 has been invested with charities and partners in support of vulnerable communities during the pandemic to ensure customers can access the services and help they need in these troubling times and staff have also volunteered more than 500 hours helping deliver thousands of food bundles.

Ms. Trubshaw added: “I’m really proud of the role colleagues have played assisting others throughout the pandemic, even when they themselves have been impacted.

“It’s important we continue to stick together throughout these challenging times. If you are affected by a power cut and are self-isolating, please contact us immediately and let us know so that we can help.”

Electricity North West also has a Priority Services Register, a free service offering extra support to those customers who may need it during a power cut.
