Debenhams has confirmed that a further 25 stores in England and Wales  - including two in the North West -  will close for the final time on May 8.

The department store's branch in the Houndshill Shopping Centre, Blackpool, is among them, as is the store in Wigan's Grand Arcade.

No date has yet been set for Preston - but the store in the Fishergate Centre will have to close by May 15 along with the remaining others.

The famous Debenhams brand and website were sold to online retailer Boohoo in January, but not the company's shops.

Its remaining stores reopened on April 12 after lockdown for liquidators to sell off stock before closing for good.

Shoppers have been told there are major discounts as the stores sell off their last remaining stock.

All Debenhams stores have been made Covid-secure, with appropriate hygiene and social distancing measures in place.

A spokesperson for Debenhams said: “Our stock is flying off the shelves and it’s no surprise with such great bargains available.

"Time is running out for shoppers to take advantage of the incredible discounts being offered at these 25 stores.”

Debenhams' Bolton store will close on May 4.
