Asda supermarket in Lancaster set to reduce opening hours amid coronavirus outbreak

The supermarket is among many trying to cope with increased demand in recent weeks with many people stocking up on popular products and leaving shelves empty.

The Ovangle Road store is usually open 24 hours, but we understand that announcements made in store said it would now open 7am until 10pm as a temporary measure.

We have contacted Asda for further information.

Asda have also said that to try to limit the spread of bacteria, additional cleaning materials have been put in stores, and items like hand sanitiser and cleaning products are limited to two per shopper.

"Whilst we are doing everything we can to maintain the availability of products for all our customers, we are asking our customers to shop responsibly in our stores and online so that everyone has access to the essentials," a spokesman said.

"We are also grateful to our colleagues for their efforts to make sure our shelves are being refilled regularly and would ask customers to be patient with them as they try to meet this increased demand for products on the shop floor."

Online shoppers who are seld isolating have been asked to make this clear in the ‘Other Information’ section when placing their order and to tell them where they would like their shopping left.

Drivers will then wear disposable gloves when delivering orders and use bags to deliver shopping, rather than plastic totes. They will leave the order at the requested location and make the customer aware the delivery has arrived by ringing the doorbell or knocking on the door."
