Physical and mental wellbeing often go hand in hand, but results can be measured in more than just muscle power.

That’s at the heart of the 3-1-5 ethos, where owner Sean Thornton isn’t only focussed on stamina – though of course physical benefits are a key part – but in the total wellbeing delivered as a result.

It means that the social space is every bit as important as the squats, and friendships found and formed are as important as fitness.

3-1-5, the home of X-force, is a business built up by Sean over the past ten years, powered by his passion for fitness. But the focus has moved to be more inclusive, and to reflect a society that values mental wellbeing and companionship more than ever.

Sean said: “Many people focus on their holistic health now more than ever and appreciate and value and enjoy the benefits associated with a healthy and active lifestyle

People now truly value the link between exercise and feeling good more than ever before.”

And while 3-1-5 is still hugely popular with those who love pure exercise – and why not, its facilities are very impressive – Sean has invested space and energy into creating social facilities and a hub that brings people together, including the café and the recovery lounge, all aimed at making his customers feel welcome, included and at home.

Its approach has won it many awards, and many more fans among the Lancashire population, who love the all-round ethos of the health club. Whether you fancy a swim in one of the three pools, want to concentrate on serious training for a big sports event, or go along to one of up to 150 classes held on site every week, there’s a fitness style to fit you. There are social booths for catching up before or after class, fun classes for the kids to do while mum and dad work out or chill out, and hydro and cryo beds to sooth aching muscles.

For those that love their sport in the extreme, there’s Shred and SWEAT classes, and at the other end of the scale, the Young at Heart coffee social club is just as popular.

Sean pays huge credit to the team he has working with him: “They are the backbone of everything we do, the people our customers get to know and trust. We’ve all worked together, the staff and our customers, to build a community to be proud of here.”
