A LANCASTER musician is celebrating after his band won the European Young Artists Jazz Award.

Harrison Wood, 19, plays double bass for the Beats and Pieces Big Band, who were the only British band to make it to the European final of the competition, held in Burghausen, Germany, last week.

Harrison, son of Promenade Music owner Dave Wood, splits his time between Lancaster and Manchester, where he is studying double bass at the Royal Northern College of Music.

He said winning the competition was a “mind blowing experience”.

He added: “It was brilliant, just amazing.”
