Leslie Gilpin is on the right track with A North Lancashire Railway Album.

His new book brings together a selection of photographs illustrating the railways of the Lancaster area through the 1940s to 1960s.

Railway enthusiasts, modellers and historians alike will love the 200-plus photographs by brothers Alan and Ian Pearsall covering the period from around 1945 through to the end of steam in 1968.

Steam, early diesel and electric trains of the time feature in the photos and there are informative captions as well as full colour maps.

Some of the shipping activity in and around Heysham Harbour is also captured.

The geographic area covered is the West Coast Main Line from north of Garstang and Catterall to Carnforth, the ‘little’ North Western line from Settle junction to Morecambe and Heysham, and the various branch lines in between.

A North Lancashire Railway Album is available from booksellers or from CRA Book Sales, 50 Tattershall, Toothill, Swindon SN5 8BX.
