New lands and cultures have always attracted travellers, explorers, and scientists, but not until relatively recent times has this fascination joined with photography to produce distinctive beautiful images.
An exhibition at Lancaster Maritime Museum, which opens on January 28 and runs until April 14, provides a glimpse of the Royal Geographical Society’s vast collection.
The exhibition showcases a unique view of the people, places and environments of our world, from iconic images of Hillary and Tenzing drinking tea at Mount Everest to majestic polar vistas.
The museum is open seven days, 12.30pm and 4pm until Easter, and then from 11am until 5pm after.
Entry for local people is free.
