A Lancaster musician is joining a world record attempt at the London Marathon next month.
Laura Hounsome, who works as a projects officer at Lancaster University, will be joining up with musicians from all over the country to try and set a new Guinness world record for ‘the fastest marching band to complete a marathon’.
She said: “While aiming to raise over £60,000 for the deafblind charity SENSE, the band will attempt to complete all 26 miles while continuously marching and playing well known tunes.
“We have raised £43,000 so far and counting!
“The band has been training hard to complete the marathon in under 7 hours 22 minutes – the time set by a German military band in the Munich Marathon in 2012.”
Trumpete player Laura, 25, who came to Lancaster as a student in 2007, has been playing for the Morecambe Brass Band for the past few years, as well as Lancaster University Brass Band. The Sense Marathon band will be appearing on the One Show prior to the marathon on April 13 and it has had celebrity endorsements from Rafa Benitez, Sir Patrick Stewart and Sue Perkins .
