Coastal Boxing in Morecambe and Skerton Amateur Boxing Club in Lancaster held their first joint event on Saturday.
The University of Cumbria (St Martin’s College) was packed for 15 exciting bouts including talented boxers from our district.
John Kelly and Dinnie Kelly from Skerton ABC both competed in ‘skills’ bouts at the start of the evening.
William Stewart from Skerton then dropped a decision to Finlay Saint from Blackpool.
James Attenborough-Lee from Hope Street beat Matty Doey from Coastal in a close contest.
Joe Craddock, 14, from Coastal was victorious over three rounds against Jordan Lewis from Leigh.
Leigh boxer Shaun Michael Varey’s decision loss to Matty Vickers from Currock House was met with anger from Varey’s cornerman who felt Shaun Michael had done enough to win.
Lewis Dennison from Coastal scored a second round stoppage win over Bradley Cready from Blackpool.
Walter Fury, cousin of Tyson Fury, used his reach to good effect in a points win over Kyle Fuller from J.R’s Gym. Lewis Marshall from Coastal was too aggressive for Jimboy Price of Leigh, scoring frequently to earn a decision.
Natasha Leach from Coastal showed excellent footwork and a straight right hand to force Sam Houghton-Halliwell from Leigh to retire in round two. Niall Doherty and Martin Baird from Coastal both lost close decisions. Dean Ashworth was in irresistible form as he stopped Siwan Raffai from Leigh in double-quick time. Liam Taylor landed a big right hand to finish Jack Catlow from Hope Street in round three, then Sean Coxon rounded off the night with a points win over Tony Boardman from Leigh.
