Kirkby Lonsdale Rugby Club’s under 12s were the winners of the Sedbergh Prep School Invitational Tournament.
They saw off the challenge of Penrith, Carlisle, Keswick and Egremont to lift the trophy in Casterton.
Kirkby’s forwards took control of their first match against Egremont and this allowed the backs space to run in three tries to nil the pick of which was by Harry Brownbill in the 15-0 victory.
In the second match Kirkby repeated the three tries to nil and fifteen-point margin against Keswick.
The third match against Carlisle was a tense affair but as the game progressed Kirkby fly half Angus Gowling began to dictate alongside his centre Nathan Simpson and Kirkby eventually ran out winners by a twenty-point margin with four tries to nil.
With an undefeated record in the tournament Kirkby needed only a draw in the final match against Penrith and they duly delivered the required result with each side scoring one try.
Ex-Sedbergh pupil and England International James Simpson-Daniel presented the trophy to the delighted Kirkby squad of Callum Bland, Charlie Norton, James Duke, Nathan Simpson, Xavier Tomlinson, Callum Mason, Ryan Mason, Tom Smith, Bill Mason, James Robinson, Nicky Weltzien, Lewis Merckel, Jack Elliot, Angus Gowling, Harry Brownbill, Harry Baines, Fraser Winn and Tim Bell.
