Triathlon: Juniors star at North West Biathlon

City of Lancaster Triathlon juniors starred at the North West Regional Biathlon.

The event was one of 17 to date across the country as athletes try to qualify for the British Modern Biathlon Championships and British Schools’ Modern Biathlon Championships.

Four Lancaster juniors, Rhys Ashton, 10, Tim Woodman, 11, Emma Whitaker, 13, and Ruby Frankland, 13, made the grade for the latter which will be held at London’s Olympics Park next year.

Ashton did so in style recording the fastest 800m run time in the national competition so far for the under 11 boys of 2:29.78.

The four to qualify for the schools event will be joined by Alice Sands, 10, Jack Collet, 9, and Stephanie Driscoll, 13, at the British Modern Biathlon Championships in Solihull in November.

Driscoll recorded the second fastest 1,600m time in the UK of 5:28.71 and was also part of the under 14 girls team that took gold with Frankland and Whitaker.
