The district’s top young triathletes came together at the British Triathlon U20s Festival in Nottingham for the European Triathlon Union’s Junior Championship, the final race in the British Triathlon Youth and Junior Super Series.
Competing against athletes from across European, Lancaster City’s Georgia Hannam enjoyed super form to take second place in the Youth race while City of Lancaster Triathlon (COLT) athlete Sarah Hodgson finished her season with a solid performance in the Junior category to claim silver in the Super Series Championship.
Also taking place as part of the festival was the British Inter-Regional Championships that included teams of 11 to 14-year-old athletes from each of the 12 regions in the UK.
The North West, defending its 2013 title, included two athletes from the Lancaster region, 12-year-old Lydia Shenton from COLT and 11-year-old Larissa Hannam of Lancaster City Swimming and Water Polo Club.
Lydia, also a keen Carnforth Otters swimmer and Lancaster and Morecambe Athletics Club athlete claimed a superb 15th place in the Tristar 2 race whilst Larissa, the youngest athlete competing in the championships, took 31st.
Although the team lost the title to East Midlands, they still claimed second place.
