A star of the future has secured the top Lawn Tennis Association rating for his age.
Seven-year-old Tomáš Grime is a member of Lancaster Tennis Club on Lune Road and started competing in Mini Red Tennis tournaments last July.
The events are played on age appropriate sized courts which are a quarter the size of an adult ones with youngsters using foam or softer tennis balls.
When players start playing competitive mini tennis, they begin with a rating of Red 4.
Tomáš has now achieved the high rating of Red 1 after playing a minimum of 66 competitive games and winning at least 20 of them against players with a rating of Red 1 or Red 2.
Currently only 18 children in Lancashire hold this rating and the majority of them train at the main county tennis centres in Manchester and Bolton.
The Cathedral Catholic Primary School pupil plays tennis for six hours a week on Lune Road and will now progress into the next phase of LTA Mini Tennis - Mini Tennis Orange.
Lancaster Tennis Club junior organiser Pat Clelland said: “We are delighted that Tomáš is doing so well.
“He is very enthusiastic, trains hard and has very supportive parents. He is already showing a lot of talent and deserves to do well.”
