A back injury means the Bentham light-heavyweight will not to be able to face Barrow’s Liam Conroy on the undercard of Anthony Crolla’s world title unification fight on September 24 against Jorge Linares.

The 27-year-old said in a statement on Facebook: “Gutted is an understatement.

“I’ve got an injury and for the biggest fight of my life I need to be 100 per cent, I owe you (the fans) and my opponent that.

“I hope it can be rescheduled as it’s a great fight for boxing fans.

“I really can’t explain how frustrating this is but I will heal, I will be back stronger and the frustration is only fuel to the top.”

It was set to be the biggest fight of Tatham’s life, the heavy-hitter being 11-1 as a pro after blasting out Eric Mokonzo inside five rounds in March to land the International Challenge belt, his fifth win inside the distance.
