Successful weekend for Needham

Morecambe racing driver Chris Needham finished 1st and 2nd in rounds 9 and 10 of the BRSCC Formula 3 championship at Rockingham Motorspeedway at the weekend to further extend his lead in the championship.

Needham slotted into second place in the first race having to give best to championship challenger Alex Craven over the opening laps and began his challenge of closing the gap.

Chris commented: "we didn't make the best of starts but weren't too concerned as we had good pace and Alex has proven to not handle the pressure of close racing too well.

"He duly proved this again as he spun out of the lead as we began to close and I was able to pace myself to a comfortable win.

The second race proved much more of a challenge as Chris overshot the tricky first hairpin on the opening lap to then began a superb recovery drive from last place to take second on the very final lap.

"The race was exciting to say the least commented Chris. We'd replaced the brake pads between races as they were particularly worn and weren't able to bed them in as I would have liked.

"Consequently I just couldn't stop the car into the tricky first hairpin and we overshot.

"I was a good 500 yards back in last place when I managed to get the car back on the circuit and just got my head down and drove out of my skin.

"I'd certainly rate it as one of my very best races as to come from the back to pass the whole field, with the exception of the winner, was quite special and it also helps redress the balance from the last couple of meetings where I've been taken off in close racing situations".

As we enter the closing part of the season Chris is looking good to secure the championship and succeed in his target of becoming the first triple championship winner.
