Successful weekend for Atoms’ second and junior teams

Although the Heysham Atoms’ first team were without a game, the rest of the club were in action in a highly successful weekend of amateur rugby league.

The under 13s came up with an impressive 40-10 home victory over Leyland Warriors, with second row Simon Cody scoring six tries and two goals in a personal total of 28 points for his team.

Callum Brodie scored two tries and Charlie Wilkinson scored one to complete the scoring.

The under 18s had a hard fought 32-16 victory against Rochdale Mayfield after losing over in Rochdale on the opening day of the season by a similar scoreline.

The try scorers were Will Hunt (2), Jack Lawton, Kyel Dempsey, and man of the match Jack Edmondson.

Such has been the numbers at training the Atoms fielded a second team against Bamber Bridge on Saturday, and they were held 32-32.

The Atoms scored six tries through Neil Walker, Dan Helme, Jack Lawton, Andy Downey and debutantes Ollie Dobson and Matty Field.

Lawton and Harrison shared the kicking duties, kicking two a piece.

The Atoms pack just about edged their counterparts with Curtis Lacey and Mike Oldcorn particularly catching the eye.
