Stylish students fight for a nation
STUDENTS from the John Ward School of Korean Martial Arts had a fantastic result at the weekend when they took part in the Birmingham heat of the National All Styles (NAS) Martial Arts Tournament.
This is the second time that the club have entered this competition, which, as the name suggests, is open to all styles of martial arts.
The competition included forms, points and continuous sparring, weapons and demonstration events.
Including school owner, John Ward, 20 people from the club entered this very well attended competition.
John said: "We went to the competition a little more confident that last time, as we had a previous good experience of the event.
"Last time we found the sparring rules a little difficult to adapt to as they were quite different from what we had been used to.
"This time, both I and one of the school instructors, Angela Prince, had attended a judging seminar run by the organisation. This proved to be a great help this time."
Indeed it was, as all 20 of the team came back home with at least one trophy, many with two or more.
Altogether the team came back with an astounding total of 42 trophies which included 17 first place, 16 second place and nine third place.
"With success like this, everyone is raring to go again at the second heat which takes place in October and hopefully the finals in December", said John.
