All Morecambe fans know Accrington Stanley like playing The Shrimps and it appears kids football is no different.

The Globe Arena hosted the Regional Finals of the Kinder+ Sport Kids Cup with a school representing Stanley coming out on top to set up a trip to Wembley in May.

Teams from across the north of England headed to the home of the Shrimps on March 10 with Lancaster Road School representing the hosts after their victory in January’s Area Final.

Other schools took part representing Hartlepool United, Shrewsbury Town, Burton Albion, Tranmere Rovers, Carlisle United, Mansfield Town, Bury FC, York City and Stanley.

Lancaster Road registered a fine 3-0 win over Hartlepool, drew 0-0 with an impressive Shrewsbury team and then succumbed, as the senior side so often do, to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Accrington, meaning they narrowly missed-out on a place in the semi-finals.

A series of thrilling games culminated in a final between York City and Accrington.

With both teams playing excellent football, it was always going to be a tight game and Stanley came out on top with a deserved 1-0 win.

The team from Huncoat Primary School will go on to represent Morecambe’s Lancashire rivals in the Grand Final at the home of English football in May.

Morecambe Community Manager Janet Preston said, “It’s been a great pleasure to host the Regional Finals and the standard of football and sportsmanship has been excellent.

“We wish the Accrington team well in the final and we know they will have a fantastic experience at Wembley.”
