St Peter’s in Heysham and Nether Kellet triumphed in Lancaster City Council’s annual Rural Primary Schools five-a-side football competition at Salt Ayre Sports Centre.

This year’s event was split into two competitions with teams from as far away as Silverdale, Melling and Nether Kellet taking part.

The group one semi-finals pitted Bolton-le-Sands against Caton St Paul’s and St Peter’s against Overton A while in group two the last four saw Nether Kellet battle Silverdale B and Overton B go up against Melling.

St Peter’s then beat Sands 2-0 in the final to win the competition for the seventh time in its 19-year history.

The group two final between Nether Kellet and Overton B proved to be an even closer contest with a 1-1 draw at the end of normal time being settled by a Nether Kellet golden goal with two minutes of extra time played.
