Slyne win rural schools tournament

Slyne-with-Hest Primary School were the winners of Lancaster City Council's annual Rural Primary Schools five-a-side football tournament.

Twenty-three teams from 15 primary schools took part in Lancaster City Council’s annual Rural Primary Schools five-a-side football competition.

Slyne-with-Hest’s A team ran out winners at Salt Ayre Sports Centre on May 20 with a 1-0 victory over Bolton-le-Sands A in the final.

Earlier in the day St Peters, Bolton-le-Sands A and Halton A were all unbeaten at the top of their groups and were joined by Carnforth North Road, Slyne A and B, Caton St Paul’s A and Silverdale A in the quarter-finals.

In the last four, Caton’s efforts in the quarter-finals took their toll as Slyne A ran out 4–1 winners.

In the other semi-final, Bolton-Le-Sands A booked their place in the final with a 1-0 win over Halton A.

The final was a closely fought contest with Bolton-Le-Sands A looking the most likely to score.

Slyne A weathered the storm however and went on to score what proved to be the only goal of the game on the counter attack.

Every player received a medal for their afternoon’s efforts.
