Skerton Boxing Club had a good evening at the North West Championships in Manchester on Saturday.

The Morecambe-based club had four boxers in the quater-finals of the senior championship with the quartet progressing to the final four in Manchester this weekend.

Marcin Lewicki and Steven Douglas both got byes to the next round when their opponents pulled out on the day.

Bob Rowntree was boxing Billy Macnamara from Collyhurst and Moston Boxing Club and started at a frenetic pace with both boxers aiming to get the upper hand.

The second round saw the Skerton boxer land some heavy head shots on his opponent and put him on the backfoot.

The third round started the same with Rowntree landing a perfect uppercut that shook his opponent to his boots and this continued throughout the round until the final bell when the Skerton boxer and his hand raised as a unanimous winner.

Next up was Sean Coxon stamped his authority on his fight and with Chris Brown from Halliwell Boxing Club in Bolton from the opening bell.

But Brown is a very strong and gifted boxer and in the second round it was toe-to-toe from start to finish.

Coxon kept his composure however and dominated the final round, having his hand raised as a unanimous victor on another successful night for the club.

Their semi-final bouts are this Saturday in Manchester.
