Schools head for county finals after victory at Vale of Lune

Pupils from Moorside School and Bolton-le-Sands Church of England Primary School have taken victory in tag rugby to seal their place at this year’s SPAR Lancashire School Games County Finals.

The teams competed against 22 other Lancaster and Heysham teams at the Vale of Lune and will now battle it out against others from across the county to be crowned Lancashire champions in tag rugby.

Steven Jamieson, school games organiser for Lancaster, said: “This year’s tag rugby qualifier was the largest rugby tournament so far for youngsters across Lancaster and Heysham, with over 250 primary school pupils battling it out on the day.

“A huge well done to all those who took part, the level of competition was extremely high and the sportsmanship and support amongst the teams was fantastic.

“I would also like to thank the young sporting leaders from Our Lady’s Catholic College, Morecambe Community High School, Heysham High School and Lancaster and Morecambe College for their invaluable support on the day.”

The SPAR Lancashire School Games, now in its ninth year, is the biggest school games scheme in the county and is part of the national £128m school games programme.

The county finals, at Stanley Park in Blackpool on June 30, will see more than 2,000 children compete in sports including gymnastics, handball, football and netball.
