Lancaster Royal Grammar School’s young cricketers have just come back from a successful tour of Barbados.

The under 15/16 team won their first four games against island schools at the Gordon Greenwich Barbados Schools competition before defeat in their final match.

Notable performances with the bat came from captain Mark Bevan, Harry Robb, Alasdair Grunshaw and Will Fraser-Gray.

With the ball Laurie Atkinson, Vinny Kumar and Will Denby, as well as Bevan and Fraser-Gray, impressed.

Team coach Craig Atkinson said: “The tour was extremely successful, both in terms of results and in developing young cricketers for senior cricket.

“The team was only defeated in the final game, despite creating opportunities to defeat a strong Wanderers side.

“All the players learned a great deal from playing in such unfamiliar conditions, with the hot sun, hostile opening bowlers and hard Barbados pitches creating different challenges from those faced on English wickets.”
