THE season started at Cross Hill Park on a perfect batting deck on a perfect day for cricket.
Sands skipper Mike Wolfenden (20) chose to make first use of the track and added 37 runs with Alan Cole for the first wicket.
Despite a nervous start Darren McDermott (1-19) soon found his rhythm taking the wicket of Cole in his impressive nine over spell.
Saeed Patel (3-45) came on first change and soon had the Bolton-le-Sands innings under his control, giving very little away in his 16 overs and giving Westgate the advantage early on.
At 81-4 after 31 overs, Sands were in need of a big partnership to give them a defendable total.
This partnership came in the form of young duo Mark Clarkson (69) and Adam Dyson (33no).
Clarkson combined taking sensible singles, with despatching big fours and sixes to the boundary, this despite clearing playing with an injury.
Dyson survived a number of dropped catches, but capitalised on these mistakes to support Clarkson in their 76 run partnership, and take Sands to a reasonable total.
Westgate made a good start to their innings reaching 62-1 with captain Andy Hill (24) and Khan Puffett (29) seemingly in complete control.
